TikTok ads in Trinidad: how to set them up
How to start TikTok ads from Trinidad and Tobago in 2026: which account to open, how billing works, which cards get through and the snags to expect.
TikTok is now one of the biggest ways to reach people in Trinidad and Tobago. TikTok's own ad tools showed about 974,000 adults reachable in the country at the end of 2025, according to DataReportal.
Getting an ad account running from here takes more care than in the US, though. Country settings, card limits and billing rules can stop a campaign before it starts, so it pays to set things up in the right order.
Pick the right tool first
TikTok gives businesses two ways to pay for reach.
| Tool | Where you use it | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Promote | Inside the TikTok app, on a video you already posted | Boosting a post that is doing well, with a small budget |
| TikTok Ads Manager | A website at ads.tiktok.com | Proper campaigns with targeting, tracking and several ads |
Promote needs a creator or Business Account and a public video. If you pay with TikTok Coins, Apple Pay or Google Pay inside the app, TikTok warns that Apple or Google may add a service fee of around 30%. Paying for Promote on the web avoids that mobile fee, according to TikTok's payment page for Promote.
Ads Manager is where real campaigns live. The rest of this guide focuses on it.
Check that your country is available
This is the step most guides skip. TikTok publishes a list of countries where businesses can create ad accounts on their own in Business Center, its tool for managing several accounts. The November 2025 version of that list does not include Trinidad and Tobago or any other English-speaking Caribbean country.
TikTok also says the places you can target depend on the country you register in. A missing country may mean TikTok cannot deliver ads there (TikTok help).
What that means in practice:
- Start at the Ads Manager signup page and look for Trinidad and Tobago in the country list.
- If it is there, register with your real legal business name and address.
- If it is missing, ask TikTok support or a TikTok agency partner how they can open an account for you.
Do not register your business as being in the US or another country to get around this. Your legal name, tax details and card would not match, and TikTok uses that information to verify your business. A rejected or suspended account is harder to fix than a slow start.
Set up the account
TikTok's setup guide asks for these details when you create an advertiser account:
- Country or region.
- Industry.
- Legal business name, exactly as registered.
- Time zone.
- Phone number.
- Currency.
Choose carefully. TikTok says the country, time zone and currency cannot be changed later; you would need a new account. Most Trinidad businesses will want their local time zone (UTC-4) and US dollars, since banks count foreign card spending in US dollars anyway.
After you add billing details, the account goes into review. TikTok says most reviews take under 24 hours, and ads will not run until the account is approved.
How billing works
TikTok offers three billing options, though not every option is open to every account.
- Automatic payment: TikTok charges your card each time your spending reaches a set amount, or on your bill date.
- Manual payment: you add money first and ads spend from that balance.
- Monthly invoicing: only for businesses TikTok approves for credit.
When you add a card for automatic payment, TikTok takes a test charge of at least US$10 and refunds it within 15 days. It also says you cannot use a prepaid card for automatic payment. If your only card is prepaid, manual payment is the route to try.
Budgets have a floor too. TikTok's minimum is US$50 a day per campaign and US$20 a day per ad group (TikTok help). An ad group is a set of ads that share one audience and budget. That is much higher than Facebook's minimum, which matters for a small shop.
Cards that work from Trinidad
The hard part is usually the card, not TikTok. Local banks have cut how much foreign currency you can spend on cards. Online payments to foreign companies count towards those limits, even when billed in TT dollars.
| Bank and card | Monthly foreign spending limit | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Republic Bank credit cards | US$2,500 per statement, or less if your US$ limit is lower | Republic Bank |
| Scotiabank credit cards | US$2,000 (US$5,000 on Aero Mastercard Black) | Scotiabank |
| RBC credit cards | TT$14,000 in foreign currency | RBC notice |
| First Citizens Mastercard Standard | US$2,000 | Caribbean Today |
| JMMB Classic debit | US$100 | Trinidad Express |
These limits cover everything foreign on the card, including Netflix, software and other ads. If TikTok is one of several foreign bills, plan your ad budget around what is left. Our guide to paying for ad platforms and AI tools from Trinidad covers more options, including US dollar debit cards.
Common snags
- Card declined at the test charge. Call your bank, confirm online foreign payments are switched on and approve the one-time code when it arrives.
- Ads stop mid-month. Your card's foreign limit may be used up. Some banks reset the limit on your statement date and others on the 1st, so check which applies.
- Music gets your ad rejected. Business accounts can only use TikTok's Commercial Music Library. Popular soca from your personal feed is not cleared for ads.
- AI visuals without a label. If your ad uses video, images or audio made or heavily changed by AI, TikTok asks you to switch on its AI-generated content toggle.
- No business verification. TikTok's business verification programme does not list Trinidad and Tobago, so don't plan around it.
What to do next
Before you spend, decide what a good result looks like: messages, website visits or sales. Start with one campaign at the minimum budget for a week, using two or three short vertical videos, and stop the ones that do not work.
If your customers mostly buy through chat, compare TikTok with Facebook and Instagram first. Our post on Meta vs TikTok ads in Trinidad looks at where a small budget goes further. And watch TikTok's country list. If Trinidad and Tobago is added to the self-serve list, setup here should get much simpler.
